Hear and Proclaim

Striving to live attentively to the call of their mission statement, Akron Dominicans and Associates have initiated a ministry of shared prayer and spiritual direction. HEAR AND PROCLAIM offers to anyone interested the following opportunities:

Taize Prayer

Taize prayer in common on the 2nd Thursday of each month from September through April at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Elms chapel. This form of prayer, which originated in an ecumenical community in Taize, France, consists of quiet reflective prayer, scripture, and music. It is a community prayer of stilling the soul and responding in love, lament and praise.

Spiritual Book Sharing

Spiritual book sharing can increase our understanding and knowledge of our faith. A group of approximately seven people meet with a facilitator every two weeks to discuss a current book. Anyone desiring to join a sharing group may call the motherhouse.

Reflection Opportunities

Mini-retreats and speakers are featured during Advent and Lent. An upcoming series will take place on February 26, March 4, 11 and 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Elms motherhouse chapel. Sister Diana Culbertson will present "The Church Community in Matthew's Gospel."

This series will consider the origins of Matthew's Gospel, it's distinction from Mark and Luke, and how Matthew understands Christian community. To hear the Gospel is to hear the words of Jesus to a people seeking his presence in a changing world.

Individual Spiritual Direction

Individual spiritual direction is available for those who desire to grow in prayer and to deepen their prayer life. Sessions are usually an hour and meetings are generally once a month.

Prayer Ministry

Prayer Ministry is always an important part of the life of Dominican Sisters. People may call to request prayers. The sisters pray individually and gather as a group once a week to pray for these intentions.
